Hank Mobley - A Caddy For Daddy (UHQ CD)

Tenor saxophonistĀ Hank MobleyĀ had been recording for Blue Note for a decade when he made his excellent 1965 albumĀ A Caddy for DaddyĀ featuring a first-class sextet withĀ Lee MorganĀ on trumpet,Ā Curtis FullerĀ on trombone,Ā McCoy TynerĀ on piano,Ā Bob CranshawĀ on bass, andĀ Billy HigginsĀ on drums.

Blue Note stalwart Hank Mobley had been recording for the label for a full decade when the great tenor saxophonist entered Van Gelder Studio in 1965 to cut his excellent albumĀ A Caddy for Daddy. For the date, Mobley assembled a first-class sextet withĀ Lee MorganĀ on trumpet,Ā Curtis FullerĀ on trombone,Ā McCoy TynerĀ on piano,Ā Bob CranshawĀ on bass, andĀ Billy HigginsĀ on drums, a remarkable line-up of musicians who were all very familiar to Blue Note listeners. The band’s easy-going camaraderie elevates the music throughout this set of four Mobley originals plus Wayne Shorter’s ā€œVenus Di Mildew.ā€ Opening with the catchy title track, a classic mid-60s Blue Note groove number fueled by Higgins’ boogaloo beat, the album also includes lesser-known Mobley tunes like the churning minor waltz ā€œThe Morning After,ā€ the hard-charging ā€œAce Deuce Treyā€ with its unexpected harmonic twists and turns, and the brightly swinging closer ā€œ3rd Time Aroundā€ which keeps the band on its toes throughout with its shifting time signatures.

UHQ-CD’s reproduce the sound of original master tapes as faithfully as possible by utilizing new transfer technologies and improved materials to produce high-quality sound with a better representation of the whole stage. UHQ-CDs comply with CD standards and can be played on existing players. Each title is presented in a UHQ-CD jewel case with an obi-strip and the original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay.
