
The Blue Mitchell Quintet - Down With It! (UHQ CD)
Miami-born trumpeterĀ Blue MitchellĀ had a soulful, swinging style that was equally at home in jazz, R&B, and funk settings. Mitchell been a sideman on Blue Note sessions led byĀ Lou Donaldson,Ā Jimmy Smith,Ā Jackie McLeanĀ and appeared on numerous classics as a member of theĀ Horace Silver QuintetĀ before he began recording his own Blue Note leader albums. For his 1965 dateĀ Down With It!Ā the trumpeter reconvened the same dynamic quintet that had recorded his label debut The Thing To DoĀ the year before including his Silver bandmatesĀ Junior CookĀ on tenor saxophone andĀ Gene TaylorĀ on bass along with a 24-year-oldĀ Chick CoreaĀ on piano and 22-year-oldĀ Al FosterĀ on drums. The band comes flying out of the gate on the boogaloo grooved opener āHi-Heel Sneakersā with other highlights of the set including the high-spirited āMarch On Selmaā and the gorgeous ballad āAlone, Alone, Alone.ā
UHQ-CDās reproduce the sound of original master tapes as faithfully as possible by utilizing new transfer technologies and improved materials to produce high-quality sound with a better representation of the whole stage. UHQ-CDs comply with CD standards and can be played on existing players. Each title is presented in a UHQ-CD jewel case with an obi-strip and the original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay.
